I, BRENDAN SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 2008/120/EC of 18 December 2008 1 , hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Welfare of farmed animals) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2009 and come into operation on 10 March 2009. 2. A reference in the European Communities (Welfare of farmed animals) Regulations 2008 ( S.I. No. 14 of 2008 ) or in an instrument issued under a power granted by those Regulations to an act of the institutions of the European Communities repealed by Article 13 of Council Directive No. 2008/120/EC of 18 December 2008 (“codified Directive”), or to a provision of the act is construed and has effect as if the reference is a reference to the codified Directive or to the equivalent provision of the codified Directive and is to be read in accordance with the correlation table in Annex III to the codified Directive.
