I, LEO VARADKAR, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 26
(2)of the Road Traffic Act 2002 (No. 12 of 2002) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 141 of 2011 )), hereby order as follows:
- This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 2002 (Certain Provisions) (Commencement) Order
- The day fixed as the day on which— (a) section 8 (in so far as it is not already in operation), (b) section 20, and (c) section 25
(2)(in so far as it is not already in operation), of the Road Traffic Act 2002 (No. 12 of 2002) come into operation is the day after the making of this order.
- The day fixed as the day on which section 16 of the Road Traffic Act 2002 comes into operation is 1 February
- GIVEN under my Official Seal, 9 January
- LEO VARADKAR, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation) This Order brings into operation Section 8 (in so far as it is not already in operation), Section 20 and Section 25
(2)(in so far as it is not already in operation) of the Road Traffic Act 2002 from the day after the making of this Order. The Order also brings into operation Section 16 of the Road Traffic 2002 with effect from the 1st February 2013.
