I, PASCHAL DONOHOE, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, on the application of the National Roads Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 8
(1)of the Roads Act 2007 (No. 34 of 2007) (as adapted by the Transport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 141 of 2011 )), and having complied with the requirements of subsection
(2)of that section, hereby order as follows:
- This Order may be cited as the Roads Act 2007 (Declaration of Motorways) Order
- The national roads mentioned in the Schedule are declared as motorways. SCHEDULE SECTIONS OF NATIONAL ROADS DECLARED AS MOTORWAYS Reference in this Schedule to— N followed by a number is a reference to a national road R followed by a number is a reference to a regional road N11 — Ashford to Rathnew The section of the N11 from its junction with the R772 at Ballynabarny to its junction with the N11 at the Rathnew to Arklow Scheme at Ballinaclogh, all in the county of Wicklow. N11 — Arklow Bypass The section of the N11 from its junction with the N11 at the Rathnew to Arklow Scheme at Ballinaskea to its junction with the R772 at Templerainy via the townlands of Johnstown North, Johnstown South and Ballymoney, all in the county of Wicklow. N11 — Rathnew to Arklow Scheme The section of the proposed N11 between its junction with the existing N11 at Ballinaclogh and its junction with the existing N11 at Ballinaskea via the townlands of Coolbeg, Ballinameesda Upper, Ballinacor East, Ballynapark, Dunganstown South and Scratenagh, all in the county of Wicklow. - PASCHAL DONOHOE, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation). This Order is made under section 8 of the Roads Act, 2007 and provides for the declaration of three specific sections of the N11 as motorway. On a motorway, higher default speed limits apply than on other public roads, access to specific types of road user or vehicle may be restricted, and protection can be afforded to the State’s investment in the national road network preventing premature obsolescence.
