I, LEO VARADKAR, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1
(2)of the Health Identifiers Act 2014 (No. 15 of 2014), hereby order as follows:
- This Order may be cited as the Health Identifiers Act 2014 (Commencement) Order
- The 13th day of July 2015 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Health Identifiers Act 2014 (No. 15 of 2014) shall come into operation: (a) sections 1 to 4; (b) sections 5, 6, 7
(1), 8, 9; (c) subsections
(1)(b) and
(4)of section 10; (d) section 11
(6)(
- a)insofar as it relates to the purpose of the performance by the Minister of a function conferred on him or her by the Health Identifiers Act 2014 or another enactment; (
- e)sections 21, 22, 23 25, 26, 27; (

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation) This Order brings certain provisions of the Health Identifiers Act 2014 (No. 15 of 2014) into operation. The sections for commencement are those that deal with the initial implementation stage which will focus on the health identifier for individuals (known as the Individual Health Identifier) and the establishment of the National Register of Individual Health Identifiers. This Order also commences the provision for delegating certain of the Minister for Health’s functions under the Act to the Health Service Executive.
