I, FRANCES FITZGERALD, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 52 and 121 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (No. 20 of 2005) (as adapted by the Justice and Law Reform (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No.138 of 2011 )), having consulted with the Garda Commissioner and the Authority, and with the approval of the Government, hereby make the following regulations: 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (Section 52) Regulations 2016.
(2)These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of January 2017. 2. The Garda Síochána Act 2005 (Section 52) Regulations 2012 ( S.I. No. 128 of 2012 ) are revoked. 3. The following ranks of the Garda Síochána are prescribed as the ranks to which the Authority may appoint members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland with the approval of the Government: (
- a)superintendent (
- b)chief superintendent (
