I, MARY MITCHELL O’CONNOR, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purposes of giving further effect to Council Directive No. 2009/48/EC of 18 June 20091 and giving effect to Commission Directives No. 2015/2115/EU of 23 November 20152 , No. 2015/2116/EU of 23 November 20153 and No. 2015/2117/EU of 23 November 20154 , hereby make the following regulations: 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Safety of Toys) (Amendment) Regulations 2017.
(2)These Regulations come into operation from— (a)24 May 2017 as regards Commission Directive No. 2015/2115/EU relating to formamide, (b)24 May 2017 as regards Commission Directive No. 2015/2116/EU relating to benzisothiazolinone, (c)24 November 2017 as regards Commission Directive No. 2015/2117/EU relating to chloromethylisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone, both individually and in a ratio of 3:1. 2. The European Communities (Safety of Toys) Regulations 2011 ( S.I. No. 14 of 2011 ) are amended in Regulation 4
(1)by substituting for the definition of “Toy Safety Directive”: “ ‘Toy Safety Directive’ means Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 June 20091, as amended by— (

  2. b)Commission Regulation (EU) No 681/2013 of 17 July 20136 , (
  3. c)Commission Directive 2014/79/EU of 20 June 20147 , (

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).
