I, CHARLES FLANAGAN, Minister for Justice and Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1
(3)of the Data Protection Act 2018 (No. 7 of 2018), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Data Protection Act 2018 (Commencement) (No. 2) Order 2019. 2. The 1st day of January 2020 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018 (No. 7 of 2018) shall come into operation: (
- a)section 25; (

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation). This Order appoints 1 January 2020 as the day on which sections 25 and 176(
- b)of the Data Protection Act 2018 come into operation. It means that from that date the Commissioner (or in the event that more than one Commissioner has been appointed under section 15, the chairperson), shall be the accounting officer of the Data Protection Commission for the purposes of the Comptroller and Auditor General Acts 1866 to 1998.
