I, Eamon Ryan, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 23A (inserted by section 8 of the Road Traffic Act 2006 (No. 23 of 2006)) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Recognition of Foreign Driving Licences — New Zealand and Taiwan) (Amendment) Order 2023. 2. The Road Traffic (Recognition of Foreign Driving Licences — New Zealand and Taiwan) Order 2010 ( S.I. No. 402 of 2010 ) is amended – (
  4. a)by the insertion of the following Article after Article 1: “1A. In this Order ‘Act of 1961’ means the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961).”, and (
  5. b)by the substitution of the following Article for Article 3: “3. This Order does not apply to – (
  6. a)a licence or permit issued by the competent authority of New Zealand in exchange for a licence or permit issued by a state other than – (
  7. i)the State, (
  8. ii)another Member State, (iii) the Republic of China (Taiwan), or (
  9. iv)any other state in respect of which an order under section 23A of the Act of 1961 applies, and (
  10. b)a licence or permit issued by the competent authority of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in exchange for a licence or permit issued by a state other than – (
  11. i)the State, (
  12. ii)another Member State, (iii) New Zealand, or (

This Order amends the Road Traffic (Recognition of Foreign Driving Licences - New Zealand and Taiwan) Order 2010 ( S.I. No. 402 of 2010 ) to allow for the recognition of Australian driving licences for exchange, following the introduction of the Road Traffic (Recognition of Foreign Driving Licence) (Australia) Order 2023 ( S.I. No. 158 of 2023 ).
