I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 19C
(1)(as amended by section 6 of the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2009 (No. 9 of 2009)) of the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 (No. 7 of 1999) (as adapted by the Housing, Planning and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 (S. I. No. 408 of 2020)), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 (Variation of Monetary Amounts) Order 2024. 2. The monetary amounts specified in paragraph (a) (substituted by section 5
(4)of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 (No. 1 of 2014)) of subsection
(1)of section 12A of the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 (No. 7 of 1999) are varied - (
- a)in subparagraph (i), to €15,350, in lieu of €13,000, (
- b)in subparagraph (ii), to €13,600, in lieu of €11,500, and (
- c)in subparagraph (iii), to €11,500, in lieu of €9,750. GIVEN under my Official Seal, 8 April, 2024. DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) This Order amends section 12A
(1)(a) of the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999 (No. 7 of 1999) to provide for increases, having regard to changes in the consumer price index, in the aggregate of election expenses that may be incurred by or on behalf of candidates at local elections.
