I, STEPHEN DONNELLY, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 5 , 29 and 31 of the Health Act 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), hereby make the following regulations: 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2024.
(2)The collective citation “The Infectious Diseases Regulations 1981 to 2024” includes these Regulations.
- In these Regulations— “Principal Regulations” means the Infectious Diseases Regulations 1981 ( S.I. No. 390 of 1981 ); “Regulations of 2024” means the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations of 2024 ( S.I. No. 119 of 2024 ).
- Regulation 14
(1)(
- b)(as last amended by Regulation 4 of the Regulations of 2024) of the Principal Regulations is amended by— (
- a)deleting “enterohaemorrhagic escherichia coli,”, and (
- b)inserting “verotoxigenic escherichia coli infection,” before “viral haemorrhagic fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Crimean-Congo)”. 4. Regulation 15

- a)(as amended by Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 2024) of the Principal Regulations is amended by— (
- a)deleting “enterohaemorrhagic escherichia coli,”, and (
- b)inserting “verotoxigenic escherichia coli infection,” before “viral haemorrhagic fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Crimean-Congo)”. 5. These Regulations amend the Schedule to the Infectious Diseases Regulations 1981 ( S.I. No. 390 of 1981 ), as inserted by Regulation 6 of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations of 2024 ( S.I. No. 119 of 2024 ), to include ‘Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection (residual unlinked clinical specimens)’ amongst the list of diseases designated as an ‘infectious disease’ for the purposes of the Health Act 1947. In addition, these Regulations amend the Principal Regulations to provide for the preliminary notification (i.e. immediate notification by telephone) of ‘Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli infection’ and remove ‘enterohaemorrhagic escherichia coli’.
