I, JENNIFER CARROLL MACNEILL, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Directive (EU) 2013/59/EURATOM of 5 December 20131 , as affected by Corrigendum of 17 March 20162 and Corrigendum of 11 June 20193 , insofar as it relates to medical exposures, hereby make the following regulations: 1.

(1)These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations 2025.
(2)The Principal Regulations, the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations 2019 ( S.I. No. 332 of 2019 ), the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2019 ( S.I. No. 413 of 2019 ), the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 ( S.I. No. 528 of 2022 ), the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 ( S.I. No. 29 of 2023 ) and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2018 to 2025.
(3)These Regulations will come into operation on 12th June
  1. In these Regulations “Principal Regulations” means the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2018 ( S.I. No. 256 of 2018 ).
  2. Regulation 4
(1)of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:
(1)By deleting the word “or” at the end of (d), replacing the full stop at the end of (e) with a comma and inserting the word “or” after the comma at the end of “(e)”.
(2)By inserting after (
  1. e)the following: “(
  2. f)a person whose name is entered in the register established and maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board pursuant to section 36 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (No. 27 of 2005), only if such person meets the standards and requirements set down from time to time by the Physiotherapists Registration Board in relation to the referral for medical ionising radiation by physiotherapists.”. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) These Regulations amend the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2018 so that persons on the Register of Physiotherapists (maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board) who also meet the standards and requirements set down from time to time by the Physiotherapists Registration Board may be referrers for the purposes of Regulation 4
(1)of the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) Regulations
  1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Dangers Arising from Medical Exposure to Ionising Radiation) (Amendment) Regulations
