I, SEAN CANNEY, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 42
(2)(b) (inserted by section 10 of the Road Traffic Act 2006 (No. 23 of 2006)) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 351 of 2020 )), and the Transport (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order 2025 ( S.I. No. 144 of 2025 ), hereby make the following regulations: 1.
(1)These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Learner Permit Form) Regulations 2026.
(2)These Regulations come into operation on 27 April
- The Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations 2006 ( S.I. No. 537 of 2006 ) are amended— (a) in Regulation 17, by substituting for paragraph
(1)the following: “17.
(1)(
- a)A learner permit shall be in scheduled form D.202. (
- b)In learner permit form D.202— (
- i)‘Date of issue’ indicates the date on which the learner permit concerned comes into force, (
- ii)‘Date of expiry’ indicates the date on which the learner permit concerned expires, (iii) ‘Valid from’ indicates the date on which the permit holder first held a learner permit in the category concerned, and (
- iv)‘Valid to’ indicates the date on which the learner permit expires in respect of the category concerned.”, and (
- b)in Schedule 1, by substituting for form D.202 (inserted by ( S.I. No. 684 of 2020 )) set out in Part 1 the following: “Part 1 Form D.202 Side 1 Side 2 ”. GIVEN under my hand, 15 April 2026. These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations 2006 ( S.I. 537 of 2006 ) by replacing Form D.202 (learner permit) in Part 1 of Schedule 1 with an update to the Irish language on the form.
