I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 35 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (No. 7 of 1994) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 351 of 2020 ), hereby make the following regulations: Citation and collective citation 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) (Amendment) Regulations 2026. 2. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 to 2024 and these Regulations may be cited together as the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 to 2026. Amendment of S.I. No. 182 of 1997 3. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 ( S.I. No. 182 of 1997 ) are amended in Article 33: (
- a)by the insertion of the following after sub-article
(2):- “(2A) A prohibition imposed by paragraph (b) of sub-article
(1)shall not apply to the driver of a bus where traffic sign numbers RVMS 104 (bus priority facility sign) and RRM 042 (bus priority facility line (Continuous Yellow)) are provided and traffic sign number RVMS 104 is displayed.” (b) by the insertion of the following after sub-article
(4):- “
(5)In this article, “bus” has the meaning assigned to it in section 2 of the Public Transport Regulation Act 2009 (No. 37 of 2009). GIVEN under my Official Seal, 13 May, 2026. This Statutory Instrument amends the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 to create a targeted exemption for buses from an existing traffic prohibition, where a clearly signed bus priority facility is in place.
