Vocational Education (Amendment) Act, 1962
In short
This law amends previous Vocational Education Acts from 1930 to 1953, primarily focusing on financial contributions to vocational education committees and defining "rateable value."
What it regulates
- The maximum annual local financial contribution to vocational education committees.
- The definition of "rateable value" for the purpose of vocational education funding.
- Travelling expenses and allowances for members of county committees or approved sub-committees.
Who it concerns
- Rating authorities that contribute to vocational education committees.
- Vocational education committees and their approved sub-committees.
- Members of county committees or approved sub-committees.
Key points
- The annual local contribution to a vocational education committee cannot exceed a rate of twenty-four pence in the pound on the rateable value of the area of charge, starting from April 1, 1963.
- The definition of "rateable value" has been clarified to include the aggregate amount of valuations of all hereditaments in an area, whether occupied or not, and regardless of how the rate is calculated.
- Members of county committees or sub-committees attending meetings less than five miles from their residence, who are away from home for at least three continuous hours, may receive an inclusive allowance for travelling expenses and subsistence if the committee passes a resolution to apply this provision.
- This Act, along with the Vocational Education Acts, 1930 to 1953, are to be read together as the Vocational Education Acts, 1930 to 1962.
