AN ACT TO AMEND THE LAW RELATING TO THE PROCLAMATION OF BANK HOLIDAYS AND OTHER STATUTORY HOLIDAYS. [18th December, 1924.] BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS OF SAORSTÁT EIREANN AS FOLLOWS:— Executive Council may appoint any day to be a bank holiday. 1.—It shall be lawful for the Executive Council from time to time as they shall think fit by proclamation to appoint any particular day to be observed as a bank holiday either throughout Saorstát Eireann or in any part thereof or in any county, city, borough, or district therein, and any day so appointed shall be kept as a close holiday in all banks within the locality mentioned in such proclamation, and shall, as regards bills of exchange and promissory notes payable in such locality, be deemed to be a bank holiday for the purposes of the Bank Holidays Act, 1871, and shall also if the proclamation so directs be a public holiday for the purposes of the Holidays Extension Act, 1875. Executive Council may change dates of bank holidays in special cases. 2.—It shall be lawful for the Executive Council by proclamation from time to time whenever it shall appear to them in any special case that in any year it is inexpedient that a day appointed as a bank holiday by the Bank Holidays Act, 1871, or the Bank Holiday (Ireland) Act, 1903, or as a holiday by the Holidays Extension Act, 1875, should be such bank holiday or holiday, to declare that such day shall not in such year be a bank holiday or holiday for the purposes of those Acts respectively and to appoint such other day as to the Executive Council may seem fit to be a bank holiday and public holiday for the purposes of the said Acts or any of them instead of such day, and thereupon the day so appointed shall in such year be substituted for the day so appointed by the said Acts or such of them as shall be specified in the proclamation. Proclamations to be published in the Iris Oifigiúil and otherwise. 3.—Every proclamation made by the Executive Council under this Act shall be published in the Iris Oifigiúil and in such other ways as the Executive Council shall direct, and such publication shall be made not later than seven days before the day which is by such proclamation declared to be a bank or other holiday.
