- The requirement for an annual report to Dáil Éireann on the operation of section 2 of the Act of 1960.
Who it concerns
- Officers and men of the Permanent Defence Force appointed or enlisted on or after July 1st, 1993.
- Other members of the Permanent Defence Force who have offered in writing to serve externally with International United Nations Forces.
Key points
- Officers and men of the Permanent Defence Force appointed or enlisted on or after July 1st, 1993, are automatically liable to serve outside the State with International United Nations Forces.
- Other members can become liable for external service if they offer in writing and the Minister or an authorised officer accepts their offer for a specified period.
- Section 3 of the Act of 1960, which previously required an offer for service, no longer applies to those appointed or enlisted on or after July 1st, 1993, and no new offers can be made under that section after this date.
- The Minister must report to Dáil Éireann annually, starting in 1994, on the operation of section 2 of the Act of 1960.
