AN ACT TO EXTEND THE TERM OF OFFICE OF THE EXISTING ORDINARY AND SUBSTITUTIVE MEMBERS OF THE BACON MARKETING BOARD AND OF THE EXISTING ORDINARY MEMBERS OF THE PIGS MARKETING BOARD, AND TO PROVIDE FOR CERTAIN MATTERS CONSEQUENTIAL ON SUCH EXTENSION. [21st December, 1938.] BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:— Definitions. 1.—In this Act— the expression “the Principal Act” means the Pigs and Bacon Act, 1935 (No. 24 of 1935); the expression “the Act of 1937” means the Pigs and Bacon Act, 1937 (No. 23 of 1937). Extension of term of office of existing ordinary and substitutive members of the Bacon Marketing Board. 2.—(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in section 13 of the Act of 1937— (a) every person who is on the date of the passing of this Act an ordinary member of the Board or who is appointed on or after the said date to fill a casual vacancy amongst the ordinary members of the Board shall, unless he sooner dies, resigns or becomes disqualified, hold office until the 31st day of December, 1939; (b) every person who is on the said date a substitutive member of the Board shall, unless he sooner dies, resigns, becomes disqualified or is appointed to fill a casual vacancy amongst the ordinary members of the Board, hold office as a substitutive member until the 31st day of December, 1939. (2) Sub-section (1) of section 13 of the Act of 1937 is hereby amended by the substitution of the figures “1939” for the figures “1938”, and the said section 13 , section 14 of the Act of 1937, and Part III of the Principal Act shall be construed and have effect accordingly. (3) In this section the expression “the Board” means the Bacon Marketing Board. Extension of term of office of ordinary members of the Pigs Marketing Board. 3.—(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in section 43 of the Act of 1937, every person who is on the date of the passing of this Act an ordinary member of the Board or who is appointed on or after the said date to fill a casual vacancy amongst the ordinary members of the Board shall, unless he sooner dies, resigns or becomes disqualified, hold office until the 10th day of January, 1940. (2) Sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 43 of the Act of 1937 are hereby amended by the substitution of the figures “1940” for the figures “1939” in each of the said sub-sections, and the said section 43 , section 47 of the Act of 1937 and Part IV of the Principal Act shall be construed and have effect accordingly. (3) In this section the expression “the Board” means the Pigs Marketing Board. Short title, construction and collective citation. 4.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1938. (2) This Act shall be construed as one with the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 and 1937. (3) The Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 and 1937, and this Act may be cited together as the Pigs and Bacon Acts, 1935 to 1938.
