RESOLUTION

RESOLUTION BALTIC ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION On the Protection of Children from Drugs The Baltic Assembly, drawing attention to the fact that the drug addiction increases rapidly and spreads among schoolchildren and young people, creating danger to the health, intellectual potential and social development of the people, providing conditions for the rise of organised crime, posing a threat to the security of the society, urges the Governments of the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania: – to unite the efforts of state institutions and non-governmental organisations as well as those of the family and the school to reduce as much as possible the use of and trafficking in drugs; – to develop and strengthen interstate co-operation and to co-ordinate the actions in the prevention of the spread of drugs and psychotropic substances; – to pay particular attention to the protection of children and teenagers from drugs; – to prepare more effective State strategies of drug control and measures to prevent drug addiction and to provide assistance to persons – victims of drug abuse; – to set up a joint interstate co-ordinating commission to solve issues related to the prevention of the spread of drugs; – to account to the national parliaments for, as well as to inform the Baltic Assembly of the preventive measures taken.
