ON THE MILITARY ACTIONS AGAINST THE TERRORISTS BY THE US AND ITS ALLIES RESPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA DECLARATION ON THE MILITARY ACTIONS BY THE US AND ITS ALLIES AGAINST TERRORISTS October 9, 2001 Vilnius On October 7, 2001, nearly one month after the barbarous terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, the Armed Forces of the United States of America and Great Britain, supported by a broad international antiterrorist coalition, commenced an attack against the terrorist bases, principal terrorist concentration places in Afghanistan and the forces assisting them. The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, recalling the tragic experience of Lithuania ten years ago and comprehending the danger posed by terrorism and the forces supporting it to all people in the world, approves of and supports the military operations of the US and its allies, which are aimed at the liquidation of the principal sources of terrorism. The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania expresses hope that these operations, avoiding innocent human victims, will attain their goal of destroying the foundations of international terrorism and creating the conditions for peace and civilised mutual relations between the states. Lithuania, striving to ease the condition of the people of Afghanistan and to solidify the stability in the region, will also participate in the humanitarian missions of the international antiterrorist coalition.
