Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters providing for the provisional application of the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of South Africa on trade in spirits as from 28 January 2002 A. Letter from the European Community Paarl, 28 January 2002 Sir, I have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of South Africa on trade in spirits signed today. Pending the entry into force of the said Agreement, I have the honour to propose to you that the European Community and South Africa apply provisionally as from 28 January 2002 all the provisions of the Agreement as well as the Annexes, Protocols and Declarations thereto. In order to ensure that certain provisions of the Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of South Africa on trade in spirits will apply as initially envisaged between the European Community and South Africa, I propose to you that the transitional period for the protection of the specific names enumerated in Article 6 of the Agreement will be counted from 1 January
- If the above is acceptable to South Africa, this letter and your confirmation shall together constitute an Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of South Africa. Please accept, Sir, the assurance of our highest appreciation. On behalf of the European Community B.
