RESOLUTION Resolution On Cooperation in Border Policies Taking into consideration the desire of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, after a 50-year long occupation, to integrate themselves into the European Union at the earliest possible date and become full-fledged members of the European Union already in this century, being aware of the fact that after joining the European Union the Eastern border of the Baltic States will become the Eastern border of the entire European Union, realizing that the unresolved border disputes and the failure to conclude agreements on cooperation in rescue operations in the Baltic Sea, as well as agreements on the distribution of control of air space may impede integration into the European Union at an earlier date, the Baltic Assembly calls on the governments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to: — essentially increase financing for the development of the borderguard forces, paying more attention to the strengthening of the Eastern border; — develop a common border policy with respect to other countries; — conclude agreements on mutual cooperation in rescue operations in the Baltic Sea; — conclude mutual agreements on the distribution of control of air space.
