SEIMAS OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA RESOLUTION ON THE CONTINUITY OF THE DRUG CONTROL POLICY 22 October 2009 Vilnius The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, invoking the 1961 United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the 1971 United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances, the 1988 United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, ratified by the Republic of Lithuania, the 2002 Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Resolution on the Prevention of Drug Addiction in Lithuania, the 2003 Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Resolution on the Drug Control Policy, and the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Basics of National Security; noting that increasingly spreading drug addiction causes damage to human health, hinders social development of population, provides opportunities for organized crime and poses a threat to public safety and well-being, strongly objects to any attempts to legalize drugs and to the policy encouraging the spread of drug addiction; supports the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation of drug addiction and compulsory restrictions and prohibitions as the key directions of an effective drug control policy, and urges Lithuania’s non-governmental organizations and the public to contribute to the implementation of the common measures for combating the illicit trafficking in drugs.
