Draft RESOLUTION ON PROTECTION OF THE TERRITORIES OF THE BALTIC STATES FROM OBSOLETE AND INFERIOR QUALITY GOODS The Baltic Assembly, taking into consideration that many used imported motor vehicles, refrigeration and other household appliances, old pharmaceutical, chemical and food industry products are being sold in the territories of the Baltic States; stating that: the use of old motor vehicles poses a threat to traffic participants and greatly increases air pollution; refrigeration equipment and other wares of obsolete technology, which use freon, constitute one of the factors responsible for the destruction of the ozone layer; food, pharmaceutical, chemical industry products without certification and whose term of usage has expired, pose a particular danger to people’s health; calls attention to the fact that in the absence of a developed infrastructure of sorting out and reclamation of waste, the number of dump sites is growing uncontrollably and surrounding territories are being polluted; considers it expedient that the Baltic Council of Ministers, the Governments and Parliaments of the Baltic countries appraise these problems and initiate effective means of control; requests the Governments to provide information regarding the work, which has been accomplished, at the next Baltic Council meeting.
