RESOLUTION REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA SEIMAS RESOLUTION REGARDING A PUBLIC AND COMPREHENSIVE SETTLEMENT OF THE CHECHNYA PROBLEM 21 December 1999 Vilnius The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, repeatedly expressing its great concern about the war being waged by Russia in Chechnya and the situation where death from cold and hunger in the mountains awaits a multitude of civilian refugees since no international aid reaches them in Chechnya, knowing that Russia’s military forces have amassed new chemical weapons which they are starting to use, opposing to treatment of Chechnya as testing ground with live people for Russia’s military industrial complex, having noted assertion by the Georgian Parliament that a weapon prohibited by international conventions has been used against Georgia as well, considering that the Russian military do oppose settlement of the problem through negotiations and are openly engaged in massive violation of human rights, wishes to assist Russia out of the impasse of the policy of violence and proposes that the Government of the Republic of Lithuania initiates deliberation of the status of Chechnya at the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee of the United Nations Organisation.
