Why ChatGPT in particular needs a connector

Language models have plenty of legal texts from around the world in their training data, but Czech legislation makes up a tiny fraction of it. The result is answers that sound confident, contain realistic-looking section numbers and case references, but turn out not to exist on inspection. In law, this is the worst possible type of error: you won't spot it until you open the actual source.

Search Czech legislation and case law from the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court and the Constitutional Court (Czech sources).
Retrieve the full text of a found decision or provision and continue working with it in the conversation.

How to connect it

ChatGPT lets you add custom connectors in settings, under the Connectors section. Creating a custom connector requires Developer mode to be enabled, which you'll find under Settings → Connectors → Advanced. It's nothing technical—just a toggle OpenAI uses to separate verified connectors from the catalogue from custom ones.

After entering the address https://mcp.europaius.com/mcp, ChatGPT will detect that the server requires sign-in and open the Europaius page. Enter your email, type in the code from the email, and you're back in ChatGPT with an active connector. You then enable it in each chat from the tools menu below the text field.

Tips for working with it

Phrase your query as a research brief: topic, country, area of law and the desired output. For example: "Find Supreme Court decisions in Europaius on Section 2913 of the Civil Code concerning damages for breach of contract from the last five years, and summarise how the court interprets foreseeability of damage." ChatGPT will call the case-law tool, go through the results and summarise them with links.

If you want to be sure the model isn't drawing on memory, add the instruction "use only sources from the Europaius connector; if none are available, say you have no source." In practice, this significantly reduces the number of fabricated citations.

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors and enable Developer mode under the Advanced section.
Click Create, fill in the name Europaius and the address https://mcp.europaius.com/mcp, leaving authentication set to OAuth.
Save and click Connect. The Europaius sign-in page will open.
Enter your email, copy in the code from the message you receive, and confirm.
