L.S. 327.106 Regolamenti tal-Kors għall-Grad ta' Master of Science in Agricultural and Veterinary Pharmacy - M.Sc

(1)The title of these regulations is the Master of Science in Agricultural and Veterinary Pharmacy - M.Sc. - Degree Course Regulations.

(2)Citation and interpretation. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Institute; "the course" means the course leading to the Degree; "the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Science in Agricultural and Veterinary Pharmacy - M.Sc.; "the Institute" means the Institute of Agriculture. 2. These regulations shall be applicable for courses starting in October 2002 or later. Applicability. Amended by: L.N. 272 of 2001. 3. To be eligible for the award of the Degree, a candidate shall have: Eligibility for the Degree. (

1. a)been approved by the Board and registered as a regular student of the University; (
2. b)completed the course of studies, obtained the required credits and have been successful in the final examinations in accordance with these regulations; (
3. c)completed a dissertation on an approved topic to the satisfaction of the Examining Board; and (
4. d)satisfied all other requirements prescribed in these regulations and in any other relevant regulations and statutes of the University. 4.

(1)In order to be admitted to the course a candidate must: (

1. a)be in possession of the degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) with at least Second Class Honours from the University of Malta or a degree in Pharmacy from another University recognised by Senate to be equivalent to a Second Class Honours degree in Pharmacy of the University of Malta; (
2. b)be approved by the Board normally on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Malta. Registration. (2)In exceptional cases, the Board may accept candidates in possession of the degrees indicated in subregulation

(1)(a) obtained with Third Class Honours, provided that such candidates shall be required to complete successfully a supplementary programme, as determined by the Board.

(3)A candidate in possession of a degree in Pharmacy from another University, in addition to satisfying the foregoing requirements, must demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English. Duration. 5.

(1)The course shall extend over a period of one year of full-time studies or, with the permission of the Board, two years of part-time studies.

(2)A candidate who has been given permission by the Board to register on a part-time basis will be required: (

1. a)to satisfy the course-work requirements in the first year and to devote the second year to the dissertation; (
2. b)to register at the beginning of each academic year.

(3)Extensions of up to one year may be approved by the Board after a written request has been submitted to the Director of the Institute. Course of studies. 6.

(1)The course shall consist of study-units, to which not less than 10 credits shall be assigned, in the following modules: (

1. a)Crop Protection Science, (
2. b)Animal Health Science, (
3. c)Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, (
4. d)Plant Nutrition or Animal Nutrition.

(2)Candidates shall also be required to write a dissertation.

(3)A catalogue of study-units in each module, with the credits assigned to each, shall be published by the Institute before the start of each course. Progress. 7.

(1)Credits shall be assigned according to the following grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F, where F indicates Fail.

(2)A candidate who fails to obtain a credit for a study-unit shall be allowed to be re-tested once. In the re-assessment, the candidate’s credit shall be graded either D or F. Final examinations. 8.

(1)The final examinations shall normally be held in June/ July and shall consist of four written papers as follows: (

1. a)one three hour paper in Crop Protection Science; (
2. b)one three hour paper in Animal Health Science; (
3. c)one two hour paper in Aromatic and Medicinal Plants; and (
4. d)one two hour paper in either Plant Nutrition or Animal Nutrition.

(2)Examination papers shall be graded in descending order of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURAL AND VETERINARY PHARMACY - M.SC. - DEGREE COURSE [ S.L.327.106 3 merit A, B, C, D or F where F indicates Fail.

(3)A candidate who fails in not more than two of the examination papers shall be allowed to re-take the examination/s during the supplementary session normally held in September, provided that the grade awarded to a candidate in a supplementary examination shall be either D or F.

(4)To satisfy the final examinations requirements a candidate must be successful in each paper. 9.

(1)Within three months of registration a candidate shall submit to the Director of the Institute a title and an outline proposal of a dissertation and the name of a member of the Institute academic staff who has accepted to act as a supervisor for approval of the Board. Dissertation.

(2)Every dissertation presented for the Degree shall be work of an original nature or an original appraisal of existing published data and shall represent knowledge in an agricultural or veterinary area preferably relating to local conditions.

(3)The dissertation shall be of such length as directed by the Board but shall not normally be less than 20,000 words or more than 30,000 words.

(4)The dissertation shall be presented in such a format and be submitted in such number of copies as the Board may direct. 10.

(1)There shall be an Examining Board composed of an external examiner from another University and another four members of the academic staff of the Institute. The Examining Board shall be appointed by the Senate of the University on the recommendation of the Board. Examining Board.

(2)The Examining Board shall be responsible for the assessment of the dissertation and the final examinations.

(3)The Examining Board shall require each candidate to attend a viva voce examination.

(4)A candidate whose dissertation is found inadequate may be required by the Examining Board to rewrite the dissertation in whole or in part and to re-submit it for assessment after at least three months. 11.

(1)The final result of each candidate shall take into consideration the credits obtained, the results of the written examinations and the merits of the dissertation.

(2)The names of the candidates who qualify for the Degree shall be published in alphabetical order and classified as follows: Passed with Distinction, or Passed. Results.
