CERTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUAL STUDY-UNITS AND AWARDS [ S.L.327.219 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.219 CERTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUAL STUDY-UNITS AND AWARDS REGULATIONS * 16th October, 2020 LEGAL NOTICE 392 of 2020, as amended by Legal Notice 134 of 2023. 1.

(1)These regulations may be cited as the Individual StudyUnits and Awards Regulations.
(2)Citation and interpretation In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires “the Award” means a University Award; “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty offering the study-unit/s or short course/s; “ECTS credits” means credits awarded according to the guidelines of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System; and “the Faculty” means the faculty, institute, centre or school offering the study-unit/s or the short course. 2. These regulations shall apply from October 2020 onwards. 3.
(1)The University may, at the discretion of the Faculty concerned, offer the possibility to persons who are not registered in a course of study leading to one of its qualifications to register as visiting students for: (
  1. a)self-contained study-units that are offered within university undergraduate and postgraduate courses; or (
  2. b)study-units that are designed ad hoc for particular needs, and approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Board. Such study-units shall be offered either individually, or thematically as a short course comprising not more than 25 ECTS credits.
(2)During an academic year, visiting students shall be allowed to register for study-units to which a total of not more than 60 ECTS credits are assigned.
(3)(
  1. i)On successful completion of study-units offered individually, visiting students shall be entitled to a transcript indicating the title, level and number of credits assigned to the study-unit/s and the mark/grade achieved. (
  2. ii)On successful completion of all study-units included in a short course, visiting students shall be entitled to an Award, indicating the title of the short course, MQF level, and the title, number of credits and mark/grade achieved in each study-unit included in the short course. *These regulations have been repealed by Legal Notice 165 of 2024. (4)The Board of a Faculty offering a certificate, diploma or degree course may accept the transfer of such credits to one of its courses if the content and level are comparable and if the study-units concerned have been completed not more than seven years previously. Admission Requirements 4.
(1)Applicants shall be in possession of those qualifications required to follow the individual study-unit/s or short course with profit. These qualifications shall be approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Board.
(2)The registration of visiting students shall be made on the recommendation of the Board. Applications 5.
(1)Applicants shall apply to register for study-units or short courses on the prescribed form and within the time specified by the Office of the Registrar.
(2)The Board shall announce the study-units which may be taken by visiting students or the programme for short courses and their admission requirements before the beginning of each studyunit or short course. The study-units and short courses shall be offered depending on the availability of resources and the number of applicants who choose them. Attendance 6. Attendance for lectures, seminars, tutorials and other learning experiences shall be compulsory and visiting students may be precluded from being assessed for a study-unit if attendance is not regular. Assessment 7. Assessments shall be conducted under the same regulations and practices prevailing at the time the study-unit is offered. Certification 8. (
  1. a)Visiting students registered on an individual study-unit/ s or on study-units included in a short course shall be eligible for certification if they complete the study-unit/s, are awarded the credits assigned to it/them, and satisfy all the requirements prescribed in these regulations; and (
  2. b)satisfy any other requirements prescribed in any other relevant statutes, regulations and bye-laws of the University. General Provision 9. In matters not provided for by these regulations, the Board shall be guided by the provisions of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019, published as Legal Notice 248 of 2019, or the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008, published as Legal Notice 120 of 2008, as applicable.
