(HONS) UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING 28th April, 2009 LEGAL NOTICE 136 of 2009, as amended by Legal Notices 126 of 2019 and 94 of 2024. 1.

(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - B.Eng. (Hons) under the auspices of the Faculty of Engineering.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Engineering; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - B.Eng. (Hons); "the Degree" means the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - B.Eng. (Hons); and "the Faculty" means the Faculty of Engineering; "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. S.L. 327.236 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2019 or later. Applicability. Amended by: L.N. 126 of 2019. applicable for courses 3. The course shall be offered in any area of study that falls within the academic responsibility of the Board, after approval by Senate. Areas of study. 4.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall: Special course requirements. Substituted by: L.N. 126 of 2019. either (
  1. a)satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations and be in possession also of passes at Advanced Matriculation Level at Grade C or better in Pure Mathematics and in Physics; or (
  2. b)as from October 2020 onwards, be in possession of the Certificate in Engineering Sciences from the University.
(2)The Board may also consider applicants in possession of a qualification at MQF Level 5 in an engineering domain, together with passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better in English Language, Maltese, Mathematics and Physics, to join the Course. Such applicants shall be required to present with the MQF Level 5 qualification they submit for entry, a detailed transcript showing their performance during their studies. 2 DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONOURS) - B.ENG. (HONS) - UNDER THE AUSPICES [ S.L.327.267 OF THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING They shall further be required to attend for an interview to assess whether they have the necessary aptitude to follow the Course with profit.
(3)The interviewing board, which shall be appointed for the purpose by the Board, shall be composed of at least three members.
(4)If applicants are graduates of a university or have other qualifications considered to be sufficient, they may be exempted by the University Admissions Board, on the advice of the Faculty Admissions Committee, from the whole or part of these special course requirements. Course duration. 5. The course shall extend over a period of three years of fulltime study. Course programme. Amended by: L.N. 94 of 2024. 6.
(1)Applicants shall be required to indicate their choice of area of study at the time of application for admission.
(2)The course shall consist of study-units to which 180 credits shall be assigned.
(3)The Board shall publish the programme of study for each area of study before the commencement of each course, following the approval of Senate. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study for the area of study they are following for the Degree.
(4)In view of professional requirements, students shall not be awarded more than 15 ECTS credits through compensated passes for the whole programme.
(5)Students following the area of study in Electrical and Electronic Engineering shall choose one of the streams as defined and specified in the corresponding programme of study for the second and third year of the course. This choice shall take place prior to the commencement of the second year of the course, as indicated by the Board. Classification of the Award. 7. The overall evaluation of each student’s performance shall be based on the results obtained in each year of the course which shall be weighted according to the following criteria: First Year Average Mark 10% Second Year Average Mark 40% Third Year Average Mark 50%.
