POL. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR SOCIAL WELLBEING 4th July, 2014 LEGAL NOTICE 231 of 2014, as amended by Legal Notice 71 of 2016 and 235 of 2019. 1.
(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Diploma in Policing - Dip. Pol. - under the auspices of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the course, on the recommendation of the Board; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in Policing - Dip. Pol.; "the Diploma" means the Diploma in Policing - Dip. Pol.; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. S.L. 327.236 2. (2)Applicants may also be admitted under regulation 6)(c) of the Admission Regulations. Such applicants must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the F a c ul t y Ad m i s s io n s C om m it t e e th a t t h e y h a v e r e a c h e d t h e academic standard required to follow the course with profit. The eligibility of such applicants shall be decided by the Faculty Admissions Committee, following an interview conducted by an interviewing board, composed of at least three persons, appointed for the purpose.
(3)All applicants referred to paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of this bye-law shall be members of the Malta Police Force holding an appointment of Probationary Police Inspectors. Such applicants shall be nominated by the Commissioner of Police.

(1)The course shall consist of study-units to which not less than 60 ECTS credits shall be assigned, in areas of studies directly related to police work and to studies supportive to policing.
(2)The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. Assessment. 6.
(1)Students who fail in study-units to which not more than 16 ECTS credits are assigned shall be given the opportunity to resit the failed assessment/s during the September supplementary examination session.
(2)Students who after the supplementary session need not more than 10 ECTS credits in order to successfully complete the Course may refer the failed study-unit/s to an additional year of study.
(3)Students who fail in more than 16 ECTS credits or in 10 ECTS credits after re-assessment may be allowed to repeat the Course in its entirety, when the course is next offered. Classification of the Award. 7.
(1)The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Pass with Distinction Pass with Merit Pass.
