(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health Science - B.Sc. (Hons) Health Science - under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

(2)Citation and interpretation. Substituted by: L.N. 353 of 2011. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Health Sciences; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health Science - B.Sc. (Hons) Health Science; "the Degree" means the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health Science - B.Sc.(Hons) Health Science; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. 1. a)the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science awarded by the University of Malta; or (
2. b)a professional qualification deemed by Senate to be comparable to the qualifications indicated in paragraph (a); and (
3. c)the licence to practice in the register of the profession concerned, as kept by the relevant regulatory council.Determination of number of applicants. 2 DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) HEALTH SCIENCE - B.SC. (1)The Board shall, after approval by Senate, determine the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the course depending on the availability of resources. The Board shall announce the number of available places at the time of the call for applications.

(2)If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, the Board shall select applicants according to the following criteria: (

1. i)academic qualifications (45% weighting): (

5. d)applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 80 and 100 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 45 marks; applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 70 and 79 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 35 marks; applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 45 and 69 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 25 marks; applicants not in possession of the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science but holding a professional qualification deemed by Senate to be equivalent shall be awarded 20 marks;; (
6. ii)relevant work experience in gainful employment (20% weighting): (

15. i)applicants having 20 years or more relevant work experience shall be awarded 20 marks; applicants having between 15 and 19 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 15 marks; applicants having between 10 and 14 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 10 marks; applicants having between 6 and 9 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 8 marks; applicants having 5 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 5 marks; applicants having 4 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 4 marks; applicants having 3 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 3 marks; applicants having 2 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 2 marks; applicants having 1 year relevant work experience shall be awarded 1 mark; provided that the date used for the purpose of calculating the years of work experience in gainful employment shall be that of the commencement of the DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) HEALTH SCIENCE - B.SC. (HONS) HEALTH SCIENCE - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES [ S.L.327.352 3 Course; (iii) successful completion of the ‘Clinical Education in Practice’ (HSC4061) or ‘Mentorship’ (NUR3227) study-unit or a unit deemed by the Board of Studies to be equivalent, and holding 2 academic years of experience as a clinical supervisor in undergraduate Health Sciences programmes offered by the University of Malta (20% weighting); and (
16. iv)successful completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses of at least 2 ECTS credits during the three years preceding the date of commencement of the Course for a maximum of 5 courses (15% weighting - 3 marks per CPD course).

(3)For the purpose of selection, applicants who fully satisfy the general and special course requirements by 31st August preceding the commencement of the course shall be placed in rank order and those for whom places are available will be accepted and informed accordingly. 5. The course shall extend over a period of two to four years of part-time study. Course duration. 6.

(1)The programme of study shall consist of study-units to which not less than 60 credits and not more than 90 credits shall be assigned. Depending on the qualification submitted for entry into the Course, students shall be required to register for and obtain credit for the study-units indicated by the Board. Programme of study. (2)Students must register for not less than 10 credits and not more than 40 credits per year.

1. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study, provided this is drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations. Students to follow the study-units.
2. Students who would have successfully completed the Certificate in Clinical Nursing Practice course will be able to transfer the study-units followed during this course to the course leading to the Degree on condition that they renounce the Certificate. (1)In order to be awarded credit for any study-unit included in the programme, students must achieve a mark of not less than 45% in the study-unit. Assessment and progress. Re-numbered by: L.N. 353 of 2011. Amended by: L.N. 210 of 2020.

(2)Students who in any academic year fail in the assessment of not more than 10 credits shall be given the opportunity to resit the failed assessments during the September assessment session.

(3)Students who fail in the re-assessment of a compulsory study-unit shall be allowed to refer the failed study-unit to the following year to be done over and above the study-units for that year. 4 DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) HEALTH SCIENCE - B.SC. (4)In the case of non-compulsory referred study-units, the Board may allow or require students to register for alternative study-units which fall within the scope of the programme of study.

(5)A study-unit that has been accepted as an alternative to a referred study-unit shall, for the purposes of these bye-laws, be deemed to be a referred study-unit.

(6)Students who fail more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph

(2)of this bye-law shall be deemed to have failed the year, and if eligible in terms of the Principal Regulations, shall be required to: (

1. a)be assessed in the Incomplete Study-Unit/s in an extension year of study; or (
2. b)repeat the year in its entirety, including any Study-Units the students may have successfully completed in their failed year..

(7)Students who after re-assessment of a referred study-unit fail to obtain credit for the referred study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the course. Classification of the Award. Re-numbered by: L.N. 353 of

2. The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained in each study-unit, all credits being weighted equally.
