PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING COURSE [ S.L.327.370 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.370 PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING COURSE REGULATIONS 23rd March, 2010 LEGAL NOTICE 170 of 2010, as amended by Legal Notices 232 and 297 of 2013, 106 of 2015 239 of 2019 and 130 of 2020. 1.
(1)The title of these regulations is the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in the Foundations of Coaching Course Regulations.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these regulations, unless the context requires otherwise: "the Board" means the Board of the Institute for Physical Education and Sport; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed for the course; “the Certificate” means the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in the Foundations of Coaching; and "the course" means the programme of study leading to the PreTertiary Certificate in the Foundations of Coaching.

To be eligible for the award of the Certificate, students (a) be registered as students in the course in terms of regulation 4; (b) complete the course of studies, qualify in the assessments and satisfy any other requirements prescribed in these regulations; and (c) satisfy any other requirements prescribed in any other relevant Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University. 4.
(1)The course shall be open to applicants who: (
- a)are in possession of passes in five subjects at Grade 5 or better at Secondary Education Certificate level, including English Language, Maltese, Mathematics and any other two subjects, or equivalent qualifications as approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Board; (
- b)shall be not less than 18 years of age within 3 calendar months from the commencement of the course; and Registration for the course. Amended by: L.N. 297 of 2013. 2 [ S.L.327.370 PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING COURSE (
- c)produce certification with regard to their prior or current involvement in Physical Education and/or Sport.
(2)Applicants who apply without the requested qualifications listed in sub-regulation
(1)shall not be required to sit for the assessments of the study-units and shall be awarded a certificate of attendance, provided that they have attended 80% of the lectures.
(3)Applicants who would have reached the age of twentythree by the beginning of the course may be admitted, provided that they shall be required to attend an interview by the Board before being accepted for the course.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course duration. Amended by: L.N. 297 of 2013; L.N. 239 of 2019. 5.
(1)The Course shall extend over a period of 17 weeks of parttime study. Board of Studies.

(1)The programme of study shall comprise study-units to which a total of 20 ECTS credits are assigned, including a practice placement which shall be conducted with either a Youth Nursery or with SportMalta.
(2)Students who register for individual study-units from this course programme have the option to complete the full course within a period of three consecutive years.
(2)The Board shall publish the programme of study before the commencement of each course, following approval by Senate. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the studyunits and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study. (1)The assessment of each study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held, provided that study-units which continue over a second semester shall be assessed once the teaching of the study-unit and the practical placement (if applicable) have been completed.
(2)Students may be barred from the assessment of a study-unit due to unjustifiable absenteeism. Absences for study-units must be justified and approved by the Board.
(3)Results for the assessment of study-units shall be published as a percentage mark and grade as indicated in the table below: Mark Range Grade 90% - 100% A+ 80% - 89% A 75% - 79% B+ 70% - 74% B 60% - 69% C+ PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING COURSE 55% - 59% C 50% - 54% D+ 45% - 49% D 0% - 44% F [ S.L.327.370 3 Both the percentage mark and the grade shall be recorded in the students’ academic record.
(4)Students who fail in the assessment of not more than one study-unit shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed studyunit at the next scheduled examination session.
(5)Students who fail in more than one study-unit, or students who after reassessment fail to obtain credit for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the course. 9.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who pass in all the study-units, including the practice placement.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. Award of the Certificate. Amended by: L.N. 232 of 2013; L.N. 106 of 2015.
