(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, for the Degree of Master in Performance Studies (Dance) – M. PS(Dance) – under the auspices of the School of Performing Arts.

- In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – "the Board" means the Board of the School of Performing Arts; "the Course" means the programme of study leading to the degree of Master in Performance Studies (Dance) – M. PS(Dance); "the Degree" means the degree of Master in Performance Studies (Dance) – M. PS(Dance); "the Postgraduate Diploma" means the Postgraduate Diploma in Performance Studies (Dance) – P.G. Dip. PS(Dance); "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards; and S.L. 327.
- "the School" means the School of Performing Arts. 2.

(1)either: The course shall be open to applicants in possession of (
- a)a Bachelor’s degree in Dance or a Dance-related subject, with at least Second Class (Honours) or placement in Category II; or (
- b)a Bachelor’s degree in a subject other than Dance or a Dance-related subject, with at least Second Class (Honours) or placement in Category II, together with substantial proven Dance experience; or (
- c)a professional qualification/qualifications and/or experience deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, to satisfy in part, the admission requirements to the course, provided that applicants Applicability. (2)All applicants who are not in possession of a first degree in Dance shall be interviewed and/or auditioned by a board composed of at least three members. Applicants shall be asked to provide evidence of their professional experience in dance by way of writing sample, performance documentation and video. Applicants unable to attend the interview and dance audition in person may arrange to complete the process through electronic means of communication. Preparatory programme. 4.
(1)The preparatory programme shall comprise study-units to which 30 credits are assigned and shall also be governed by the Principal Regulations.
(2)Students shall be required to successfully complete the preparatory programme of study with an average mark of 55% or better prior to their registration for the course. Course duration. 5. study. The course shall extend over five semesters of part-time Programme of study. 6.
(1)The programme of study shall comprise study-units to which a total of 90 credits are assigned, of which 60 credits are assigned to taught study-units and 30 credits assigned to the dissertation study-unit.
(2)Students who obtain the 60 credits assigned to the taught study-units with an average mark of at least 50% and do not proceed with the course, or having proceeded do not successfully complete the dissertation, shall be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma.
(3)The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course.
(4)The course shall be offered by direct tuition and by distance learning as follows: (
- a)six intensive two-week periods of study to be held at the University of Malta; and (
- b)the remaining tuition shall be delivered by distance learning. Assessment and progress. 7.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the academic year in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who in any academic year fail in the assessment of not more than 10 credits for taught study-units shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessment at the first practicable opportunity, as determined by the Board.
(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph

(1)Students shall be required to submit an individual di s s e r ta ti o n o f a bo u t 2 0 , 00 0 w o r ds i n a c c o r da nc e w it h t h e guidelines issued by the Board. Dissertation.
(2)Each student shall be assigned a supervisor who shall provide guidance and advice on a regular basis during the period of study.
(3)A provisional title of the dissertation and a detailed research proposal shall be submitted to the Board for approval by the end of October of the second academic year of the course. 9.
(1)Students shall be required to have regular contact with their supervisor. Supervisor.
(2)Supervisors shall submit to the Board a progress report each students under their supervision three months before submission. Such reports may include a recommendation to either (
- a)extend the period of study in order to enable the student to complete the dissertation; or (
- b)terminate studies prematurely if the supervisor deems this to be proper in the circumstances, provided that: (
- i)the extension of the study period referred to in (
- a)shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Principal Regulations; and (
- ii)the Board may not terminate studies prematurely according to (
- b)until it has first given the student a chance to be heard. 10. The final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Postgraduate Diploma and the Degree shall be ba s e d o n th e r e s u l t s o bt a i ne d i n al l t he c o m p o ne n ts of t h e programme of study, all credits being weighted equally.
