DIPLOMA IN THE LAWS OF PROCEDURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF LAWS [ S.L.327.401 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.401 BYE-LAWS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN THE LAWS OF PROCEDURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF LAWS 21st April, 2011 LEGAL NOTICE 139 of 2011, as amended by Legal Notices 355 of 2011, 71 of 2016 and 255 of 2018. 1.
(1)The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws of 2011 for the Diploma in the Laws of Procedure under the auspices of the Faculty of Laws.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Laws; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the course on the recommendation of the Board; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in the Laws of Procedure; "the Diploma" means the Diploma in the Laws of Procedure; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. (1)To be registered as regular students in the course, applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations of the University. Requirements for admission. Amended by: L.N. 355 of 2011; L.N. 71 of 2016; L.N. 255 of 2018.
(2)Applicants admitted as "Adult Learners" (mature applicants) under paragraph (c) of Regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course, together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae.
(3)Applicants admitted in terms of paragraph
(2)of this bye-law shall be in possession of a pass in an English language proficiency test as approved by the University before being admitted to the Course, provided that applicants in possession of at least a Secondary Education Certificate pass at Grade 5 or higher in English Language shall be exempted from sitting for the proficiency test
(4)The eligibility of applicants referred to in paragraph
(2)of this bye-law shall be decided by an interviewing board, composed of at least three members, appointed by the Board for this purpose. 2 [ S.L.327.401 DIPLOMA IN THE LAWS OF PROCEDURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF LAWS Course duration. 4. The course shall extend over a period of two semesters of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study. Programme of study. 5.
(1)The course shall consist of a number of taught studyunits to which a total of 60 credits are assigned.
(2)The programme of study shall be drawn up by the Board of Studies and published by the Board after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. Classification of the Award. 6.
(1)The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as indicated in the Principal Regulations.
