DIPLOMA IN DESIGN FOUNDATION STUDIES UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT [ S.L.327.402 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.402 BYE-LAWS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN DESIGN FOUNDATION STUDIES UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT 21st April, 2011 LEGAL NOTICE 140 of 2011. 1.
(1)The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws of 2011 for the Diploma in Design Foundation Studies under the auspices of the Faculty for the Built Environment.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "th e Boar d" means the Board of the Faculty fo r the B uilt Environment; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed for the course by Senate, on the recommendation of the Board; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in Design Foundation Studies; "the Certificate" means the Certificate in Design Foundation Studies; "the Diploma" means the Diploma in Design Foundation Studies; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. S.L. 327.236 2. These bye-laws shall apply to courses commencing in October 2010 or later. Applicability. 3. To be registered as regular students in the course, applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations of the University. Requirements for admission. 4. The course shall extend over a period of two semesters of full-time study. Course duration. 5.
(1)The course shall consist of a number of taught studyunits to which a total of 60 credits are assigned. Programme of study.
(2)The programme of study shall include a common core of visual design fundamentals, and elective study-units chosen from an approved list of study-units designed to, amongst other things, develop visual literacy and visual communication skills, and language, cognitive, and human communication skills.
(3)The programme of study shall be drawn up by the Board of Studies and published by the Board after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. 2 [ S.L.327.402 DIPLOMA IN DESIGN FOUNDATION STUDIES UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
(4)Students who successfully complete a prescribed set of study-units totalling 30 credits and opt not to proceed with the course, or having proceeded do not successfully complete the course, shall be eligible for the award of the Certificate. Assessment and progress. 6.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students must attend at least 80% of the lecture programme, studio sessions, practical workshops or seminars prescribed for a study-unit before they can be allowed to present themselves for any formal assessment of the study-unit. Classification of the Award. 7.
(1)The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as indicated in the Principal Regulations.
