(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws of 2011 for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Human Language Technology - B.Sc. (Hons) HLT - under the auspices of the Institute of Linguistics.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Institute of Linguistics; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Human Language Technology - B.Sc. (Hons) HLT; "the Degree" means the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Human Language Technology - B.Sc. (Hons) HLT; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards. S.L. 327.236
- These bye-laws shall apply to courses commencing in October 2011 or later. Applicability.
- To be registered as regular students in the course, applicants shall satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations. Requirements for admission.
- The course shall extend over a period of three years of fulltime study or its equivalent in part-time study. Course duration. 5.
(1)The programme of study for the course shall consist of study-units to which 180 credits shall be assigned. Programme of study.
(2)Students who successfully complete the programme of study for the first year of the course to which 60 credits have been assigned and opt not to pr oceed with the course or, having proceeded, do not successfully complete the course, shall be entitled to the Diploma in Human Language Technology.
(3)Students who successfully complete the programme of study for the first two years of the course to which 120 credits have been assigned and opt not to proceed with the course or, having proceeded, do not successfully complete the course, shall be entitled to the Higher Diploma in Human Language Technology.

- The Final Weighted Average Mark for the classification of the Higher Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the two years of the course, each year of which shall be weighted as follows: First Year Average Mark 40% Second Year Average Mark 60%.
- The Final Weighted Average Mark for the classification of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained in the course, each year of which shall be weighted as follows: First Year Average Mark 20% Second Year Average Mark 40% Third Year Average Mark 40%.
