L.S. 327.427 Ordinamenti għall-Grad ta’ Master in Education for Sustainable Development taħt il-patroċinju taċ-Ċentru għall-Edukazzjoni u Riċerka Ambj

(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Degree of Master in Education for Sustainable Development under the auspices of the Centre for Environmental Education and Research.

(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the course; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the degree of Master in Education for Sustainable Development; "the Degree" means the degree of Master in Education for Sustainable Development; "the Postgraduate Diploma" means the Postgraduate Diploma in Education for Sustainable Development; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards. (1)The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of one of the following qualifications: Requirements for admission. Amended by: L.N. 374 of 2014; L.N. 279 of 2018. applicable for (

1. a)any first cycle degree with at least second class honours; or (
2. b)any first cycle degree and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a recognised sustainable development setting.

(2)All applicants shall be required to demonstrate that they have the necessary aptitude and disposition to follow the Course with profit.

(3)(

1. a)Professional aptitude and disposition shall be measured by means of a personal interview. (
2. b)Applicants who obtain less than 50% for the professional aptitude and disposition criterion shall automatically not be admitted into the Course. 2 [ S.L.327.427 DEGREE OF MASTER IN EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

(4)Senate, on the recommendation of the Board of Studies, shall determine the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.

(5)When the number is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places available, applicants shall be selected according to the following criteria, which shall be weighted as follows: (

1. a)degree type and classification - 20%; (
2. b)experience in the area of the proposed study - 40%; and (
3. c)professional aptitude and disposition - 40%.

(6)The interviewing board appointed by the Board of Studies shall be composed of at least three members. Course duration.

1. The course shall extend over three semesters of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study. Programme of study.
2. The programme of study shall consist of study-units to which a total of 90 credits are assigned, of which 60 credits are assigned to taught study-units and 30 credits are assigned to a dissertation study-unit. Postgraduate Diploma.
3. Students who obtain the 60 credits assigned to the taught study-units with an average mark of at least 50% and do not proceed with the course, or having proceeded do not successfully complete the dissertation, shall be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma. Publication of pogramme of study.
4. The programme of study shall be published by the Board of Studies after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. Assessment and progress. 8.

(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.

(2)Students who in the course of the academic year fail in the assessment of not more than 20 credits for taught study-units if following the course full-time, or not more than 10 credits if following the course part-time, shall be given the opportunity to resit the failed assessments during the September supplementary examination session.

(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph

(2)of this bye-law, or students who after re-assessment fail to obtain the credits for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the course. Dissertation. 9.

(1)Students shall be required to submit an individual dissertation of approximately 25,000 words in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Board of Studies.

(2)Work on the dissertation shall be undertaken during the third semester of the course. Each student shall be assigned a DEGREE OF MASTER IN EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH [ S.L.327.427 3 supervisor who shall provide guidance and advice on a regular basis during the period of study.

(3)A provisional title of the dissertation and a detailed research proposal shall be submitted to the Board of Studies for approval by the end of the first semester if following the course full-time, or by the end of the second semester if following the course part-time. 10.

(1)Students shall be required to have regular contact with their supervisor. Supervisor.

(2)Supervisors shall submit to the Board of Studies progress reports for students under their supervision at the end of each semester of studies, whether the student is following the Course on a full-time or a part-time basis. Such reports may include recommendations to either (

1. a)extend the period of study in order to enable the student to complete the dissertation; or (
2. b)terminate studies prematurely if the supervisor deems this to be proper in the circumstances, provided that: (
3. i)the extension of the study period referred to in (
4. a)shall be in accordance with the provisions of Principal Regulations; and (
5. ii)the Board of Studies may not terminate studies prematurely according to (
6. b)until it has first given the student a chance to be heard. 11. The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Postgraduate Diploma and of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained in all the components of the programme of study as appropriate, all credits being weighted equally. Classification of the Awards. 12.

(1)The Board of Studies may, from time to time, offer students the opportunity to follow the course on a part-time basis. Special provisions for part-time courses.

(2)The provisions of the foregoing bye-laws shall apply mutatis mutandis to courses followed on a part-time basis, and subject to such changes as may reasonably be deemed by the Board of Studies as necessary due to the part-time nature of the course.
