UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS [ S.L.327.438 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.438 BYE-LAWS IN TERMS OF THE GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS, FOR THE CERTIFICATE IN GERMAN – CERT. GER. – OR THE DIPLOMA IN GERMAN – DIP. GER. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS 8th June, 2017 LEGAL NOTICE 173 of 2017. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, for the Certificate in German – Cert. Ger. – or the Diploma in German – Dip. Ger. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Arts; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Certificate” means the Certificate in German - Cert. Ger.; “the Certificate Course” means the programme of study leading to the Certificate in German – Cert. Ger.; “the Diploma” means the Diploma in German - Dip. Ger.; and “the Diploma Course” means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in German – Dip. Ger. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2017 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Certificate Course or the Diploma Course, applicants shall, apart from satisfying the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations, be in possession of: (
- a)a minimum level of A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in German if seeking admission to the Certificate Course; or (
- b)a minimum level of B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in German or the Certificate if seeking admission to the Diploma Course.
(2)Applicants shall provide certification to attest their level of German, or if they do not have such certification, they shall be required to undertake a placement test conducted by the Department of German.
(3)Applicants admitted under paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those Applicability. Requirements for Admission. 2 [ S.L.327.438 DIPLOMA IN GERMAN – DIP. GER. UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Faculty Admissions Committee that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Certificate or the Diploma Course with profit. The eligibility of such applicants shall be decided by t he Fa c ul ty A d mi s s io ns C om mittee following an i nte rview conducted by an interviewing board appointed for the purpose.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three persons. Duration of Courses. 4.
(1)The Certificate Course shall extend over a period of two semesters of part-time study.
(2)The Diploma Course shall extend over a period of two semesters of part-time study beyond the Certificate Course. Course Programmes. 5.
(1)The Certificate Course shall consist of study-units to which 30 ECTS credits are assigned.
(2)The Diploma Course shall consist of study-units to which 60 ECTS credits are assigned, 30 ECTS credits of which are covered during the Certificate Course. Programmes of study. 6. The programmes of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. Award of the Certificate. 7.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in paragraph
(1)of bye-law 5 unless they opt to proceed to the Diploma Course.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. Classification of the Diploma. 8.
(1)The Diploma shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in paragraph
(2)of bye-law 5. The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in all the studyunits, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Pass with Distinction Pass with Merit Pass.
