(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Higher Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics H.Dip. - under the auspices of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing. Citation and interpretation. Substituted by: L.N. 199 of 2018.
(2)In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Higher Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics - H.Dip.; and “the Higher Diploma” means the Higher Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics - H.Dip. 2. (1)To be registered as regular students in the course, applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations. Requirements for admission. Amended by: L.N. 71 of 2016; L.N. 220 of 2019.
(2)Applicants considered as “Adult Learners” (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Faculty Admissions Committee that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.). The eligibility of such applicants shall be decided by the University Admissions Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Admissions Committee, following an interview conducted by an interviewing board appointed for the purpose.
(3)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three persons.
(4)The University Admissions Board, on the advice of the Board, may allow applicants in possession of additional 2 HIGHER DIPLOMA IN GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS - H.Dip. [ S.L.327.468 qualifications and relevant experience evaluated according to the University Policy for the Recognition and Accreditation of Prior L e a r n i n g ( R P L ) t o b e a d m i t t e d f o r t he C o u r s e un d e r t h o s e conditions as the Board may impose.
(5)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The Board shall announce the number of available places at the time of the call for applications.
(6)When the number of places is limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places available, applicants will be selected, using the following criteria, the weighting of which shall be published at the time of the call for applications: (a) academic and other qualifications; (b) experience in the area of the proposed study; and (c) performance during the interview.
(7)For the purpose of selection, applicants who fully satisfy the entry requirements by 31st August preceding the commencement of the Course shall be considered first. Course duration. Substituted by: L.N. 199 of
- The course shall extend over a period of three semesters of full-time study. Course programme.
- The course shall consist of a number of taught study-units to which 90 ECTS credits shall be assigned. Publication of programme of study.
- The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. Classification of the Award. 7.
(1)The overall evaluation of each student’s performance in the course for the purpose of the classification of the Higher Diploma shall be based on the results obtained, all credits earned being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Higher Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Pass with Distinction Pass with Merit Pass.
