L.S. 327.537 Ordinamenti għall-Grad ta’ Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Culture – M. TCM – taħt il-patroċinju taċ-Ċentru tal-Mediċina Ċiniz

(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Degree of Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Culture - M. TCM - under the auspices of the Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine.

(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies as appointed by Senate for the course; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the degree of Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Culture - M. TCM; "the Degree" means the degree of Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Culture - M. TCM; "the Postgraduate Diploma" means the Postgraduate Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Culture - P.G.Dip. TCM; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards. S.L. 327.328 2. later. These bye-laws shall be applicable from October 2019 or Applicability. (1)The course shall be open to applicants in possession of a Bachelor degree from this University, or another institution recognized by Senate for the purpose, with at least Second Class Honours in an area of study related to a health care profession (such as medical, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy). Requirements for admission. Amended by: L.N. 131 of 2019.

(2)Applicants not in possession of a first degree in the health care professions but who have other qualifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine of a level acceptable to the University Admissions Board and sufficient to qualify for registration as Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners (or acupuncturists) with the national registering body (Council for Professions Complementary to Medicine or equivalent EU body) shall also be considered.

(3)Applicants not in possession of a first degree but who have 2 DEGREE OF MASTER IN TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE AND CULTURE - M. TCM - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF [ S.L.327.537 THE CENTRE FOR TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE other qualifications and experience in a health care setting shall also be considered. Such applicants shall be called for an interview to determine whether they will be able to follow the course with profit.

(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course duration. Substituted by: L.N. 336 of

2. The Course shall extend over a period of three semesters of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study. Programme of study. . 5.

(1)The programme of study shall comprise study-units to which a total of 90 ECTS credits are assigned, of which 60 ECTS credits are assigned to taught and practical study-units and 30 ECTS credits to the dissertation study-unit.

(2)Students who obtain the 60 ECTS credits assigned to taught study-units with an average mark of at least 50% and do not proceed with the course, or having proceeded do not successfully c o m pl e te t he co ur s e , shal l be e l ig i bl e f o r th e aw a rd o f t he Postgraduate Diploma.

(3)The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the course. Assessment and progress. Amended by: L.N. 336 of 2018. 6.

(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.

(2)Students who in any academic year fail in the assessment of not more than 20 ECTS credits for taught and practical study-units, if following the full-time Course, or not more than 10 ECTS credits if following the part-time Course, shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessment during the September supplementary examination session.

(3)Students who fail more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph

(2)of this bye-law or students who after re-assessment fail to obtain credit for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the course. Dissertation. Amended by: L.N. 336 of 2018. 7.

(1)Students shall be required to submit an individual dissertation of approximately 25,000 words, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Board of Studies.

(2)Work on the dissertation shall be undertaken during the third semester of the full-time Course, or during the last two semesters of the part-time Course. Each student shall be assigned a supervisor who shall provide guidance and advice on a regular basis during the period of study.

(3)A provisional title for the dissertation and a detailed research proposal shall be submitted to the Board for approval by the date indicated by the Board. Supervisor. 8.

(1)Students shall be required to have regular contact with their supervisor.

(2)Supervisors shall submit to the Board of Studies progress DEGREE OF MASTER IN TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE AND CULTURE - M. TCM - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTRE FOR TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE [ S.L.327.537 3 reports for each student under their supervision. Such reports may include a recommendation to either (

1. a)extend the period of study in order to enable the student to complete the dissertation; or (
2. b)terminate studies prematurely if the supervisor deems this to be proper in the circumstances, provided that: (
3. i)the extension of the study period referred to in (
4. a)shall be in accordance with the provisions of Principal Regulations; and (
5. ii)the Board of Studies may not terminate studies prematurely according to (
6. b)until it has first given the student a chance to be heard. 9. The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Postgraduate Diploma and of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained in all the components of the programme of study, all credits being weighted equally.
