POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATIONAL MENTORING - P.G.Cert. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION [ S.L.327.548 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.548 BYE-LAWS FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATIONAL MENTORING P.G.Cert. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION 24th August, 2016 LEGAL NOTICE 287 of 2016, as amended 338 of 2018 and 224 of 2019. 1.
(1)The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Mentoring - P.G.Cert. under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
(2)Citation and interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - "the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Education; "the Certificate" means the Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Mentoring - P.G.Cert.; "the course" means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Mentoring - P.G.Cert.; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards. S.L. 327.328 2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in in October 2019 or later. Applicability. Amended by: L.N. 338 of 2018; L.N. 224 of 2019. 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the course, applicants: Requirements for admission. Amended by: L.N. 338 of 2018. (
- a)shall be in possession of: (
- i)the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours); or (
- ii)a first cycle degree together with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education; or (iii) a first cycle and, or second cycle degree or higher and a permanent teacher’s warrant; or (
- iv)any other recognized teaching qualification and a permanent teacher’s warrant; and (
- b)shall be working and based in schools occupying a role with direct relevance to teaching; and (
- c)shall have a minimum of four years’ teaching experience.
(2)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register on the course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places in the different learning areas, shall be announced at the time of the call for applications. Should any places remain vacant in a 2 [ S.L.327.548 POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATIONAL MENTORING - P.G.Cert. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION particular learning area such places shall be distributed amongst the other learning areas.
(3)When the number of places is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, applicants will be selected using the following criteria, the weighting of which shall be published at the time of the call for applications: (a) degree type and classification; (b) work experience; and (c) performance during an interview.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course duration.
- The course shall extend over a period of two semesters of part-time study. Programme of study.
- The programme of study shall consist of a number of studyunits to which 30 ECTS credits shall be assigned. Publication of programme of study.

(1)The assessment of each study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who fail in the assessment of not more than 10 ECTS credits shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessments during the September supplementary examination session.
(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph
(2)of this bye-law, or students who after re-assessment fail to obtain the credits for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the Course. Result of the Award. Renumbered: L.N. 224 of 2019. 8.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in bye-law 5.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order.
