[L.S. 327.578 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.578 BYE-LAWS IN TERMS OF THE GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE AWARDS, FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN COUNSELLING SUPERVISION - P.G.CERT. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR SOCIAL WELLBEING 8th November, 2017 LEGAL NOTICE 309 of 2017. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, for the Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision - P.G.Cert. - under the auspices of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing. Citation and Interpretation.
(2)In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision - P.G.Cert.; “the Postgraduate Certificate” means the Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision - P.G.Cert.; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008. 2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in October 2017 or later. 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants must be in possession of the degree of Master in Counselling or Master of Arts in Transcultural Counselling awarded by this University or an equivalent qualification in counselling from another higher education institution recognised by Senate subject to the approval of the Board.
(2)Applicants referred to in paragraph
(1)of this bye-law are a ls o r e q u i r e d t o h a v e a m i n i m u m o f 3 y e ar s o f s u p er v i s e d experience in a counselling setting. This experience should be obtained after the applicants have been awarded the qualifications indicated in paragraph
(1)of this bye-law.
(3)Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, shall determine the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for Applicability. Requirements for Admission. 2 POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN COUNSELLING SUPERVISION – P.G. CERT. (4)When the number is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places available, applicants shall be selected according to the following criteria, which shall be weighted as follows: (

- e)degree type and classification - 20%; work experience in the area or in a related field - 15%; professional aptitude and disposition - 55%; references - 5% and; supervisor’s report - 5%.
(5)All applicants shall be required to demonstrate that they have the necessary aptitude and disposition to follow the Course with profit.
(6)(
- a)Professional aptitude and disposition shall be measured by means of exercises involving an extended personal interview. (
- b)Applicants who obtain less than 60% for the professional aptitude and disposition criterion shall automatically not be admitted into the Course.
(7)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course Duration. Programme of Study. Assessment and Progress.
(8)For the purpose of selection, applicants whose qualifications and experience as stipulated in paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of this byelaw were obtained by the 31 August preceding the commencement of the Course shall be considered first. 4. The Course shall extend over two semesters of part-time study. 5.
(1)The programme of study shall comprise study-units to which a total of 30 ECTS credits are assigned, of which 18 ECTS credits are assigned to taught study-units, 6 ECTS credits are assigned to a practical study-unit and 6 ECTS credits are assigned to a research study-unit.
(2)The programme of study shall be published by the Board of Studies after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. 6.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who fail in the assessment of not more than 10 ECTS credits assigned for taught study-units shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessments during the September supplementary examination session, provided that students who fail the practicum study-unit shall not have the right to a supplementary POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN COUNSELLING SUPERVISION – P.G. CERT. [L.S. 327.578 assessment in the same academic year but shall be required to re-do the practicum during an additional year of studies. Such an additional year shall not be counted for the purpose of Course duration.
(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph
(2)of this bye-law, or students who after re-assessment fail to obtain the credits for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the Course.
(4)Students must maintain a good level of performance in the study-unit involving the supervised practicum for which the minimum pass mark shall be grade C – 55%. 7.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in bye-law 5.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. Result of the Award. 3
