(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, for the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) Nursing (Elderly Care) - B.Sc. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

(2)Citation and Interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Health Sciences; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by the Board to administer the Course; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing (Elderly Care) - B.Sc. (Hons); “the Degree” means the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing (Elderly Care) - B.Sc. (Hons); and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004. 2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in October 2017 or later. 3.

(1)Applicants for the Course shall be in possession of the following qualifications: (

1. a)the Higher Diploma in Health Science (Nursing Studies) or the Diploma in Health Science (Nursing Studies) awarded by the University of Malta; or (
2. b)a professional qualification deemed by Senate to be comparable to the qualifications indicated in paragraph (a); and (
3. c)Deleted by Legal Notice 345 of 2022.

(2)Applicants may be required to provide evidence of being in possession of a registration to practice the nursing profession, as kept by the relevant regulatory council. 4.

(1)The Board shall, after approval by Senate, determine the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the Course depending on the availability of resources. The Board shall announce the number of available places at the time of the call for Applicability. (2)If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, the Board shall select applicants according to the following criteria: (

1. i)academic qualifications (45% weighting): (
2. a)applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 80 and 100 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 45 marks; (
3. b)applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 70 and 79 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 35 marks; (
4. c)applicants obtaining overall percentage marks of between 45 and 69 in the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science or equivalent grade points shall be awarded 25 marks; (
5. d)applicants not in possession of the Higher Diploma in Health Science or the Diploma in Health Science but holding a professional qualification deemed by Senate to be equivalent shall be awarded 20 marks; (
6. ii)relevant work experience in gainful employment (20% weighting): (
7. a)applicants having 20 years or more relevant work experience shall be awarded 20 marks; (
8. b)applicants having between 15 and 19 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 15 marks; (
9. c)applicants having between 10 and 14 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 10 marks; (
10. d)applicants having between 6 and 9 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 8 marks; (
11. e)applicants having 5 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 5 marks; (
12. f)applicants having 4 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 4 marks; (
13. g)applicants having 3 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 3 marks; (
14. h)applicants having 2 years relevant work experience shall be awarded 2 marks; (
15. i)applicants having 1 year relevant work experience shall be awarded 1 mark, provided that the date used for the purpose of calculating the years of work experience in gainful employment shall be that of the commencement of the Course; (iii) successful completion of the ‘Clinical Education in Practice (Mentorship)’ (HSC4061) or ‘Mentorship’ (NUR3227) study- DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) NURSING (ELDERLY CARE) - B.SC. (HONS) [ S.L. 327.581 unit or a unit deemed by the Board of Studies to be equivalent, and holding 2 academic years of experience as a clinical supervisor in undergraduate Health Sciences programmes offered by the University of Malta (20% weighting); and (
16. iv)successful completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses of at least 2 ECTS credits during the three years preceding the date of commencement of the Course for a maximum of 5 courses (15% weighting - 3 marks per CPD course).

(3)For the purpose of selection, applicants who fully satisfy the requirements for admission by 31st August preceding the commencement of the Course shall be placed in rank order and those for whom places are available will be accepted and informed accordingly. 5. The Course shall extend over a period of two to three years of part-time study. 6.

(1)The programme of study shall consist of study-units to which not less than 80 ECTS credits shall be assigned, provided that depending on the qualification presented for admission into the Course, students may be required by the Board to follow and complete additional study-units to be eligible for the award of the Degree.

(2)Students must register for not more than 40 ECTS credits per year and shall be directed by the Board on the number of credits they shall be required to register for during each year of the Course.

1. The Board shall publish the programme of study for the Degree, drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations, and approved by Senate. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study.
2. Students who would have successfully completed the Certificate in Clinical Nursing Practice (Elderly Care) course will be able to transfer the study-units followed during this course to the course leading to the Degree on condition that they renounce the Certificate.
3. The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained in each study-unit, all credits being weighted equally. Course Duration. Programme of Study. Classification of the Award. 3
