[ S.L. 327.592 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.592 BYE-LAWS IN TERMS OF THE GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE AWARDS, 2008 FOR THE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MALTESE SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETING - P.G.DIP. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTICS AND LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY * 13th March, 2018 LEGAL NOTICE 81 of 2018. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008 for the Postgraduate Diploma in Maltese Sign Language Interpreting - P.G.Dip. - under the auspices of the Institute of Linguistics.
(2)Citation and Interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – "the Board" means the Board of the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; "the Course" means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Maltese Sign Language Interpreting P.G.Dip.; "the Postgraduate Diploma" means the Postgraduate Diploma in Maltese Sign Language Interpreting - P.G.Dip.; and "the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in February 2018 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)The Course shall be open to applicants who are proficient in Maltese Sign Language, Maltese and English and who shall satisfy the following requirements: (
- a)be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree; and (
- b)pass an interview which shall be held partly in Maltese, English and Maltese Sign Language for the purpose of determining their aptitude and *These bye-laws have been repealed by Legal Notice 185 of 2022. (2)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register on the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
(3)If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places, applicants shall be selected using the following criteria, weighted as follows: (a) qualifications - 50%; (b) performance during the interview - 50%.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members, one of whom shall be a deaf person with experience in the teaching of Maltese Sign Language.
(5)For the purpose of selection, applicants who are already engaged in Maltese Sign Language interpreting and fully satisfy all the requirements shall be considered first. Course Duration 4. The Course shall extend over four semesters of part-time study which may extend over the summer months. Programme of Study. 5.
(1)The programme of study shall comprise a number of taught study-units and a practical component totalling 60 ECTS credits.
(2)The programme of study shall be published by the Board of Studies after approval by Senate normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. Assessment and Progress. 6.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the academic year in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who in any academic year fail in the assessment of not more than 10 ECTS credits shall be given the opportunity to resit the failed assessment during the September supplementary examination session.
(3)Students who fail more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph
(2)of this bye-law and students who fail to obtain credit for any study-unit after re-assessment shall be considered to have failed the Course. Eligibility.
- Students shall be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma if they obtain the 60 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course with an overall average of at least POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MALTESE SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETING - P.G.DIP. [ S.L. 327.592 50%.
- The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Postgraduate Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in all the components of the programme of study, all credits being weighted equally. Classification of the Postgraduate Diploma. 3
