CERT. UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION 4th December, 2018 LEGAL NOTICE 408 of 2018. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards for the Postgraduate Certificate in Developing the Educator - P.G. Cert. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Education; “the Certificate” means the Postgraduate Certificate in Developing the Educator - P.G. Cert.; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Developing the Educator - P.G. Cert.; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2018 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)Applicants may be registered as students on the Course if they are in possession of: (
- a)the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours); or (
- b)a first cycle degree together with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education; or (
- c)a first cycle and/or second cycle degree or higher and a permanent teacher’s warrant; or (
- d)any other recognised teaching qualification and a permanent teacher’s warrant; or (
- e)any other recognised qualification in education that allows one to be employed in schools. Applicability Requirements for Admission 2 [ S.L. 327.615 POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN DEVELOPING THE EDUCATOR - P.G. CERT
(2)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register on the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
(3)When the number of places is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, applicants shall be selected using the following criteria, the weighting of which shall be published at the time of the call for applications: (a) degree type and classification; (b) work experience; and (c) performance during an interview, if required.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course Duration 4.
(1)The Course shall extend over a period of up to five years of part-time study.
(2)Eligible applicants may register as visiting students for individual study-units and obtain credit for them. Should they be accepted to join the Course within seven years from following the first study-unit, the Board may allow the transfer of these credits to the student’s academic record for the Course. The provision regarding re-assessment indicated in bye-law 7 below shall apply. Programme of Study
- The programme of study shall consist of a number of study-units to which 30 ECTS credits shall be assigned.
- The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. Assessment and Progress 7.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who, overall throughout the duration of the Course, fail in the assessment of not more than 10 ECTS credits assigned for taught study-units shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessments during the September supplementary examination session.
(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph
(2)of this bye-law, or students who after POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN DEVELOPING THE EDUCATOR - P.G. CERT [ S.L. 327.615 re-assessment fail to obtain credit for any study-unit, shall be deemed to have failed the Course. 8.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in bye-law 5 with a Final Average Weighted Mark of at least 50%.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. Result of the Award 3
