[ S.L. 327.617 DIPLOMA IN WIND BAND STUDIES 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.617 BYE-LAWS IN TERMS OF THE GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN WIND BAND STUDIES UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS 4th December, 2018 LEGAL NOTICE 410 of 2018. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards for the Diploma in Wind Band Studies under the auspices of the School of Performing Arts.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – “the Board” means the Board of the School of Performing Arts; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Certificate” means the Certificate in Wind Band Studies; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in Wind Band Studies; “the Diploma” means the Diploma in Wind Band Studies; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2018 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall, apart from satisfying the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations of the University, undertake an interview and an audition, provided that applicants with a pass at Grade C or better at Advanced Matriculation Level in Music shall be exempted from both interview and audition.
(2)Applicants admitted under paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the School Admissions Committee that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. (3)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register on the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
(4)If there are more eligible applicants than the number of places available, applicants in possession of an Advanced Matriculation Level in Music shall be ranked first, according to the following categories listed in order of preference: 1st Category: those with a grade ‘A’ in Music 2nd Category: those with a grade ‘B’ in Music 3rd Category: those with a grade ‘C’ in Music
(5)If vacant places are still available, the remaining applicants shall be selected according to the following criteria, which shall be determined during an audition and interview: (
- a)Technical ability (30%) (
- b)Creativity (20%) (
- c)Critical Thinking (20%) (
- d)Potential for Development (10%) (
- e)Social Interaction (10%) (
- f)Articulation (10%).
(6)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members.
(7)For the purpose of selection, applicants whose qualifications as stipulated in bye-law 3 were obtained by 31 August preceding the commencement of the Course shall be considered first. Course Duration

- The programme of study, which shall comprise study-units to which 60 ECTS credits are assigned, shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of each Course. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in DIPLOMA IN WIND BAND STUDIES [ S.L. 327.617 the programme of study for the Diploma, provided that the programme of study shall be drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations.
- Students who successfully complete study-units to which 30 ECTS credits are assigned, and who either opt not to proceed with the Course, or having proceeded, do not successfully complete the Course shall be entitled to the award of the Certificate.
- Students shall be eligible for the award of the Diploma if they obtain the 60 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course. 8.
(1)The overall evaluation of each student’s performance in the Course for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the Course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Pass with Distinction Pass with Merit Pass.
