[ S.L. 327.618 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.618 BYE-LAWS IN TERMS OF THE GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE AWARDS FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING MALTESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE - P.G. CERT. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION 11th December 2018 LEGAL NOTICE 421 of 2018, as amended by Legal Notices 132 of 2019, 275 of 2020 and 170 of 2026. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws in terms of the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards for the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Maltese as a Foreign Language - P.G. Cert. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Education; “the Certificate” means the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Maltese as a Foreign Language - P.G. Cert.; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Maltese as a Foreign Language - P.G. Cert.; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2008. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2020 or later. applicable for courses Applicability Amended by: L.N. 132 of 2019; L.N. 275 of 2020. 3.
(1)Applicants may be registered as students on the Course if they are in possession of at least a SEC pass in Maltese at grade 5 or better and of: Requirements for Admission. Substituted by: L.N. 132 of 2019. Amended by: L.N. 275 of 2020; L.N. 170 of 2026. (
- a)the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours); or (
- b)a first cycle degree together with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education; or (
- c)a first cycle and/or second cycle degree or higher and a permanent teacher’s warrant; or (
- d)any other recognized teaching qualification together with a permanent teacher’s warrant; or 2 [ S.L. 327.618 POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING MALTESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE - P.G. CERT. (
- e)a first cycle and/or second cycle degree or higher.
(2)The Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register on the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
(3)When the number of places is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, applicants will be selected using the following criteria, the weighting of which shall be published at the time of the call for applications: (a) degree type and classification; (b) work experience; and (c) performance during an interview, if required.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course Duration Amended by: L.N. 275 of 2020. 4.
(1)The Course shall extend over a period of a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of six semesters of part-time study.
(2)Eligible applicants may register as visiting students for individual study-units and obtain credit for them. Should they be accepted to join the Course within seven years from following the first study-unit, the Board may allow the transfer of these credits to the student’s academic record for the Course. Programme of Study
- The programme of study shall consist of a number of study-units to which 30 ECTS credits shall be assigned.
- The programme of study shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. Result of the Award 7.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in bye-law 5 with a Final Average Weighted Mark of at least 50%.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order.
