[ S.L. 327.636 DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.636 BYE-LAWS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION * 5th November, 2019 LEGAL NOTICE 287 of 2019. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws for the Diploma in Science Communication under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Education; “the Certificate” means the Certificate in Science Communication or the Certificate in Context Based Science; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in Science Communication; “the Diploma” means the Diploma in Science Communication; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019. 2. These bye-laws shall commencing in October 2019. be applicable for courses 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations of the University.
(2)Applicants admitted as “Adult Learners” under paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and experience that would satisfy the Board, through an interview, that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course, together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae.
(3)Applicants admitted in terms of paragraph
(2)of this byelaw shall be in possession of a pass in an English language proficiency test as approved by the University before being admitted to the Course, provided that applicants in possession of a Secondary Education Certificate pass at Grade 3 or higher in English Language *These bye-laws have been repealed by Legal Notice 185 of 2022. Applicability Requirements for Admission 2 [ S.L. 327.636 DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION or a pass at the same standard in a comparable qualification, shall be exempt from this requirement.
(4)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course Duration 4.
(1)The Course shall extend over a period of two semesters of full-time study or up to four semesters of part-time study.
(2)Eligible applicants may register as visiting students for individual study-units and obtain credit for them. Should they be accepted to join the Course within seven years from following the first study-unit, the Board may allow the transfer of these credits to the student’s academic record for the Course. Programme of Study
- The programme of study shall consist of a number of study-units to which 60 ECTS credits shall be assigned.
- The Board shall publish the programme of study drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations and approved by Senate. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study.
- Students who successfully complete a prescribed set of study-units to which not less than 30 ECTS credits are assigned and who either opt not to proceed with the Course, or having proceeded do not successfully complete the Course shall be entitled for the award of the Certificate.
- Students shall be eligible for the award of the Diploma if they obtain the 60 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course. Classification of the Award 9.
(1)The overall evaluation of each student’s performance in the Course for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the Course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Passed with Distinction Passed with Merit Passed.
(3)The Certificate shall be awarded unclassified. DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION [ S.L. 327.636 10. The provisions of the foregoing bye-laws shall apply mutatis mutandis to courses followed on a part-time basis, and subject to such changes as may reasonably be deemed by the Board as necessary due to the part-time nature of the Course. 3 Special Provisions for Part-Time Courses
