(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws for the Diploma in Education for Cultural Mediation under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Education; “the Certificate” means the Certificate in Education for Cultural Mediation; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Diploma in Education for Cultural Mediation; “the Diploma” means the Diploma in Education for Cultural Mediation; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019. 2. (1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations of the University. Requirements for Admission Amended by: L.N. 246 of 2021; L.N. 307 of 2022.
(2)Applicants admitted as “Adult Learners” under paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of passes in English and Maltese proficiency tests as approved by the Faculty. Applicants will be exempted from sitting for the proficiency tests in English and Maltese if they are in possession of a Secondary Education Certificate pass at Grade 5 or higher, or at Intermediate Matriculation Level pass at Grade C or higher in the respective subject. In the case of English, passes at the same standard in comparable qualifications will also be accepted. Applicants who do not fulfil the Maltese Language Proficiency requirement by the beginning of the Course, may be allowed to enrol in the Course, provided that they obtain a pass in Maltese Language Proficiency before the end of the first semester of the Course, and prior to sitting 2 [ S.L. 327.645 DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION FOR CULTURAL MEDIATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION for any assessment.
(3)All applicants must have native or advanced speaker competence in a third language other than Maltese or English.
(4)All applicants shall be required to satisfy the Board, through an interview, that they have reached the necessary aptitude and disposition to follow the Course with profit. The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members.
(5)All applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course, together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae.
(6)All applicants must prove that they have resided in Malta for a minimum of three

  2. The programme of study shall consist of a number of study-units to which 60 ECTS credits shall be assigned.
  3. The Board shall publish the programme of study drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations and approved by Senate. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study.
  4. Students who successfully complete a prescribed set of study-units to which not less than 30 ECTS credits are assigned and who either opt not to proceed with the Course, or having proceeded do not successfully complete the Course shall be entitled for the award of the Certificate.
  5. Students shall be eligible for the award of the Diploma if they obtain the 60 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course. Classification of the Awards 9.
(1)The overall evaluation of each student’s performance in the Course for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in the Course, all credits being weighted equally.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION FOR CULTURAL MEDIATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION follows: Passed with Distinction Passed with Merit Passed.
