(1)These regulations may be cited as the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport - B.Sc. (Hons) - Degree Course Regulations.

(2)In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires – “the Board” means the Board of the Institute of Aerospace Technologies; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies responsible for the academic administration and organisation of the Course, which shall include representation from the Partner Universities; “the Certificate” means the Certificate in Air Transport of the University; “the Course” means the programme of study developed by the Partner Universities leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport - B.Sc. (Hons.) and the degree of Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics - B.Sc., as applicable; “the Degree” means the dual degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport - B.Sc. (Hons) - of the University, and the degree of Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics - B.Sc. - of the Partner University; 02“the Diploma” means the Diploma in Air Transport of the University; “the Higher Diploma” means the Higher Diploma in Air Transport of the University; “the Institute” means the Institute of Aerospace Technologies; “the Partner Universities” means the University of Malta and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, USA; “the Partner University” means Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, USA; “the Senate” means the Senate of the University of Malta; and “the University” means the University of Malta. (3)This Degree is an international degree of the University and this shall be taken to mean that the Course is taught in collaboration with the Partner University within the framework of a dual degree programme. The Degree shall only be awarded if both Partner Universities declare the student to be eligible for the two awards. Applicability 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2020 or later. applicable for courses Special Requirements for Admission 3.

(1)The Course shall be open to professional air transport pilots who are licensed to fly turbine powered aircraft who: (

1. a)satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations, and are in possession of a pass at Advanced Matriculation Level in Physics or a comparable qualification; or (
2. b)are applicants considered as “Adult Learners” (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (
3. c)of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Institute Admissions Committee and the University Admissions Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course, together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).

(2)The Board may require applicants in terms of subparagraph (b) of paragraph

(1)of this bye-law to follow and pass a number of additional study-units to make up for the missing requirements. Such study-units will be offered to applicants against a fee. Course Duration

1. The Course shall extend over a minimum period of four years of part-time study (including the summer semesters). Programme of Study
2. The programme of study for the Course, which shall comprise study-units to which a minimum of 240 ECTS credits are assigned, shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of each Course. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study for the Degree.
3. Students who successfully complete 30 ECTS credits for study-units delivered and assessed by either the Partner Universities BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) IN AIR TRANSPORT - B. SC. (HONS) - DEGREE [ S.L. 327.661 3 shall be eligible for the award of the Certificate.
4. Students who successfully complete 60 ECTS credits for study-units delivered and assessed by either the Partner Universities shall be eligible for the award of the Diploma.
5. Students who successfully complete 90 ECTS credits for study-units delivered and assessed by either the Partner Universities shall be eligible for the award of the Higher Diploma.
6. Students shall be eligible for the award of the Degree if they obtain the 240 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course. 10.

(1)The method of assessment for each study-unit shall be indicated in the study-unit description. The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held. (2)The students’ performance throughout the Course shall be assessed in accordance with the approved method of assessment for each study-unit. Assessments shall be graded according to the marking and grading scheme of the institution delivering the relevant study-unit and then converted to the University’s marking and grading scheme in accordance with a conversion grading schedule which is agreed by the Partner Universities.

(3)Re-assessment of study-units shall be held in accordance with the policies, procedures and practices at the relevant host university. 11.

(1)The overall evaluation of each student’s performance in the Course for the purpose of the classification of the Degree, the Higher Diploma and the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained, all credits awarded being weighted equally. Classification of the Award

(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Degree shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division), Third Class and Pass.

(3)The names of students who qualify for the Higher Diploma or the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows: Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit and Pass.

1. The testimonial given by the University shall include a statement to indicate that the Partner University has separately awarded a degree for the successful completion of the same Course. Testimonial of the Award
2. In matters not provided for by these regulations, the Board and the Board of Studies shall be guided by the provisions of the General Provision 4 [ S.L. 327.661 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) IN AIR TRANSPORT - B.
