POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN ADLERIAN COUNSELLING - P.G. CERT. [ S.L. 327.681 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.681 BYE-LAWS FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN ADLERIAN COUNSELLING - P.G. CERT. - UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FACULTY FOR SOCIAL WELLBEING 21st December, 2021 LEGAL NOTICE 485 of 2021, as amended by Legal Notice 309 of 2022. 1.

(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws for the Postgraduate Certificate in Adlerian Counselling - P.G. Cert. under the auspices of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing.
(2)Citation and Interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Certificate” means the Postgraduate Certificate in Adlerian Counselling - P.G. Cert.; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Adlerian Counselling - P.G. Cert.; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in February 2022 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants must be in possession of the degree of Master in Counselling or Master of Arts in Transcultural Counselling awarded by this University, or an equivalent qualification in counselling or another profession kindred to the area from another higher education institution recognised by Senate, provided this is deemed relevant by the Board.
(2)Applicants referred to in paragraph
(1)of this bye-law are also required to be registered in one of the official registers kept by the Council for the counselling or counselling kindred profession in the applicant’s country of employment and residence, and must have a minimum of 3 years of supervised experience in a counselling or psychotherapeutic setting. This experience should be obtained after applicants have been awarded their accreditation as indicated in paragraph
(1)of this bye-law. Applicability. Requirements for Admission. Amended by: L.N. 309 of 2022. 2 [ S.L. 327.681 POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN ADLERIAN COUNSELLING - P.G. CERT.
(3)Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, shall determine the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
(4)When the number is so limited and the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places available, applicants shall be selected according to the following criteria, which shall be weighted as follows: (
  1. a)Counselling, or relevant, classification - 20%; degree type and (
  2. b)Work experience in the area or a related field 15%; (
  3. c)Performance at interview - 55%; and (
  4. d)References and Supervisors’ Report - 10%
(5)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members.
(6)For the purpose of selection, applicants whose qualifications and experience as stipulated in paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of this bye-law were obtained by the 31 August preceding the commencement of the Course shall be considered first. Course Duration. 4. The Course shall extend over one semester of full-time study, or three semesters of part-time study which may extend over the summer period. Programme of Study. 5.
(1)The programme of study shall comprise study-units to which a total of 30 ECTS credits are assigned.
(2)The programme of study shall be published by the Board of Studies after approval by Senate normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course. Assessment and Progress. 6.
(1)The assessment of each taught study-unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held.
(2)Students who fail in the assessment of not more than 10 ECTS credits for taught study-units shall be given the opportunity to re-sit the failed assessments during the September supplementary examination session.
(3)Students who fail in more than the number of credits permitted under paragraph
(2)of this bye-law, or students who after re-assessment fail to obtain the credit for any study-unit, shall be POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN ADLERIAN COUNSELLING - P.G. CERT. [ S.L. 327.681 3 deemed to have failed the Course. 7.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain all the credits indicated in bye-law 5. Result of the Award.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. 8. The provisions of the foregoing bye-laws shall apply mutatis mutandis to courses followed on a part-time basis, and subject to such changes as may reasonably be deemed by the Board of Studies as necessary due to the part-time nature of the Course.
